SEATTLE — It's hard to be part of the Seattle music scene and not know about Kathy Moore. She was even praised by Pearl jam guitarist Mike McCready. But you cannot have a powerful trio without a loud drummer like Faith Stankevich. And the steady bass of Alyssa Martini.
Over the years, each of these solid musicians has contributed to the Seattle music scene, collaborating with many bands.
Evening's Jose Cedeno met up with Moore, Stankevich and Martini at The Central Saloon in downtown Seattle.
Cedeno: If nobody has heard your music, what would you say the sound is like?
Moore: It's Rock, Punk, Psychedelic.
Cedeno: On your website, it says this band will make you raise eyebrows; why is that?
Stankevich: Well, it depends on your frame of mind, of course. I think that we are unexpected; it's three women who come out loud, someone intricate, interesting, just different music.
Cedeno: Who writes the songs?
Stankevich and Martini point to Moore.
Cedeno: Who plays the guitar?
Stankevich and Martini point to Moore.
Martini, laughing: We are just props.
Cedeno: What is it about you and the guitar? I did see you earlier, and it's almost like you were disconnecting yourself and just jamming on your own.
Moore: I think I get into a state; I love guitar, I love all the dirtiness of it, but then when I get on stage, I drop all the nerdiness.
Cedeno: Seattle has a history of music; even today, bands are still doing it, representing Seattle.
Stankevich: It's something about the environment around here, like the rain and everything; I think it is just conducive to that raging rock. It's a long history; in our own way, I think we just want to keep trying to move the bar forward a little bit.
Moore: We love playing together; we love playing with an audience.
Martini: And I love these guys.
So, don't miss the opportunity to check out this powerful trio that for sure will rock the stage. You can watch the full performance of the Kathy Moore Super Power Trio on Band in Seattle airing on KONG this Saturday at 11 p.m.
