SEATTLE — This story originally aired on KING-TV's Evening Magazine in 1991.
Everyone wants to show that they've stayed up with the times and one way to do that is by using slang. Back in the '90s, Evening Magazine examined some of the most popular slang words and how to use them.
"Yo" was used as a way to greet a close friend, and if that friend told you something amazing you may gasp and say "clutch the pearls!"
There are countless ways to convey that someone has had too much to drink, but in the '90s you would just say they were "bucked."
Another common expression was "MacGyver" in reference to the popular T.V show where the impossible was often accomplished.
"Knocking boots" was used as a substitute for the phrase "spooning" or "the nasty."
No one likes being secretly undermined, but the next time it happens to you, a retro phrase to use is "Norvilled."
Work can be tough sometimes, 'people in the '90s would call it a real "Black and Decker."
Some words never change. When saying goodbye to someone it's never out of style to say "peace."
Slang words evolve quickly. Most words used in the '90s aren't heard anymore. If you know any slang, be sure to use it fast before they're no longer deemed "cool."
