Here's a scenic way to explore Seattle without getting stuck in traffic

Kenmore Air offers scenic seaplane tours with views you'll never forget #k5evening

SEATTLE — There really is a way to show off Seattle without getting stuck in traffic, by joining fellow passengers on a Kenmore Air float plane that takes off from Lake Union and soars over the city at 100 mph.

Our pilot Jeff Nelson says people get a whole new perspective from above.

"They're surprised by how much water there is around," he said. "Everybody knows that we are a maritime city and we're surrounded by lakes, but you don't really see the vastness of Lake Washington or the Puget Sound until you're up in the air."

Our 30 minute flight costs $119 per passenger and takes us over Husky Stadium, over both floating bridges, Shilsole Bay Marina and towards the end, right by the Space Needle.

"Everyone's kind of shocked at how close we get to everything just because we're a seaplane," Nelson said. "We operate a little differently than a land plane."

So, what's the highlight of the scenic flights?

"I think everybody mostly loves the take off and landing," Nelson said. "I think that's the most exciting part especially for people who have been on a lot of other planes. It's a really unique way to fly."

It's a bucket list opportunity that gives you a whole new perspective on the city we love.

"Yeah," Nelson agreed. " I say you should probably check out a seaplane if you can. It's a pretty unique experience."
