SEATTLE — To passersby, Ken's Market on Seattle's Queen Anne Hill looks like a normal grocery store. But for the locals who shop there, it's a staple of the neighborhood.
"A lot of them say, 'Man, this is just like my pantry, right?' Because they just come in multiple times a day to get the things that they need," said Eric Giles, co-owner of Ken’s Market. "My grandfather bought this store in 1964 when it was an IGA. He went to go private and it became Ken's NFC, Ken's Neighborhood Food Center."
Decades later Ken's grandson Eric, along with friends and lifelong employees Joe Vizzare and George O'Connor now own and run the store.
"We're hands-on as owners. So, that's a huge thing looking at the quality of the stuff," said Vizzare. "We love to support local, we're all about local. And just kind of any easy grab-and-go type of food."
"It's a family full on grocery store where we have everything you need from fresh fruits and vegetables to the meats to the deli sandwiches," Giles adds.
But it's their commitment to customer service that's been bringing customers back for nearly 60 years, and why you voted Ken's Market the Best Mom & Pop Grocery Store in Western Washington.
Joe adds, "I love the people, I love the customers. All my employees. That's what it's all about really."
Ken's Market can be found at 2400 6th Ave W, Seattle WA 98199 on Seattle's Queen Anne Hill.
