LAKEWOOD, Wash. — With nearly two dozen decorated Christmas trees and snow flakes shining from the ceiling, Lake City Pub is a winter wonderland and it's all thanks to owner Lauren Lively.
"OK so clearly I love Christmas, " Lively laughed. "What it comes down to, the core of it, the heart of it is I love any excuse to bring joy to people. I really love any reason to celebrate each other."
Lively's pub is open every day but Monday so she used Mondays to decorate.
"So, first of all, you're living in my head," She laughed. "And in my head I'm always thinking about ways to decorate, ways to make something beautiful."
The holiday season is also celebrated in food and drink. One of the cocktails is called The Jack Frost. The Blanco Blizzard is a tequila coconut cocktail and it is all white. Another perennial menu item is the game hen with crispy skin, served with a vegetable hash.
"It's nice, hearty, winter mean," noted Lively who has made it her mission to make Lake City Pub more than a neighborhood bar. It already is for the regulars here.
"I absolutely love that we are like family," Lively said. "Everybody [who] comes in. I know your name, I know your drink."
Lauren Lively has a way of making this pub feel lively. She just needs to know when to stop.
"I could keep going," she laughed. "I mean honestly, but this is it because Christmas is what? In 8 days? So, this has to be it."
