To play a younger version of the galaxy's greatest smuggler, Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Donald Glover had one objective.
“I just wanted him to be cool,” said Glover. “That was it. At the end of the day if people didn't feel like he was smooth or cool or confident with himself it would just fall apart."
Calrissian’s outspoken partner is a droid played by the British actress Phoebe Waller Bridge, who wore a green body sock in production.
“It was really hard going to the loo and bits of me went numb every now and again but that comes with most jobs,” she said.
This is the third time the 7 foot Finnish basketball player Joonas Suotamo has played Chewbacca, but the first time his character has played Holochess. Evening reporter, Saint Bryan, has also tried his hand at Holochess and after half an hour of playing the game, had no understanding of the rules.
“I have a few things I need to go over as well,” Suotamo laughed.
Rounding out the cast are Thandi Newton and Woody Harrelson who says he had to be coaxed into accepting the role.
“How long did you make them wait?” asked Newton.
“ A few days,” said Harrelson.
“A few days for a Star Wars movie?” asked Newton.
“I'm a slow thinker,” said Harrelson.
Finally, there's the Millennium Falcon, which looks shiny and new in “Solo: A Star Wars Story”. Especially in Glover’s favorite part, Lando’s quarters.
“I used to hang out there,” said Glover. “At a certain point, it made more sense to stay there than to go all the way down [to my trailer]. I had a book I was reading Sapiens, and I'm like 'I'm just going to lay in Lando’s bed' and I loved that room.
