SEATTLE — Let's start with Hillside '77. Who wants to explain that name?
“We're named after the Hillside Stranglers—the serial killers,” said frontman Kevin Magnum.
Okay, well, let's change topics on that. If nobody has ever heard you guys, what would you say?
"We are a straightforward rock n roll band. Rock n roll that punches you in the mouth. I am very adamant about having a guitar solo in every song," Magnum said. "If you trace back to the 1980s, there were some incredible bands with guitar solos, though hardly anyone does it anymore."
Is there a message?
"This band is not political; it is straightforward. Get out there, dance and enjoy life," Magnum said.
What is the feedback the fans are giving you when you guys are playing live?
"They're just like, hurry up and get off the stage," Magnum joked.
"I've gotten the word refreshing a lot. We're not reinventing the wheel. Everything's been played already," guitarist Jonathon Pulk said. "We're just playing what we think sounds cool."
This band is currently working on a new project, one that involves the local team.
"We have a brand-new song about the Seattle Mariners called 'Gold Top.' We haven't recorded it yet, but it's going to come out soon," Magnum said.
So, can you give me a little bit of a teaser on that?
"'It's open season, and the hats are on tight over in the square; up on a rooftop, he got a Gold Top looking down at the millions below,'" said Magnum. "The New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl, and the Seattle Mariners can one day win the World Series."
