BELLEVUE, Wash. — On a rainy Monday morning in Bellevue, it's a bit difficult to drum up enthusiasm before anyone has had their first cup of coffee.
So, the reaction to Mercurys Coffee winning their seventh Best of Western Washington title since 2012 was a bit subdued.
Though founder Morgan Mercury Harris was definitely excited.
"Oh, that's awesome!" he said.
It was back in 1998 that Harris opened his first drive through Mercurys Coffee stand in Woodinville. Since then, his 13 locations have been delivering quality caffeine by the cup load.
"Most people are pretty happy in the morning," Harris said. "Happy to see you and happy to connect with you."
They may need to see and connect with a coffee stand in the morning, we suggested.
"Yes, but it's always like that bright spot in people's day," he said.
Harris has always believed once customers get a taste of quality and value, they come back.
Baked goods are prepared onsite at all hours of the day. Even when the shop is closed, bakers are working in the kitchen.
Portion sizes are generous. There's a three pound cinnamon roll for sale.
The coffee is 100% organic and roasting continuously, and customer service is always served with a smile.
"There's a lot of amazing coffee companies in Seattle, but I think for us it comes down to the connection with the community," Harris said. "Customers always comment 'you guys have the best people!"
Beginning in 2012, Mercurys Coffee won six straight Best of Western Washington awards. Now they're especially proud to reclaim the title.
