Microsoft's "Cortana" is a voiced by Issaquah woman

We hear her all over the world! Now, we get to meet the woman behind the voice.
Microsoft's "Cortana" is voiced by a woman from Issaquah.

Issaquah, Wash. — Cortana is an artificially intelligent character in Halo, one of the most popular video games ever, and she recently became the windows phone personal assistant.

She is Microsoft's reply to Apple's Siri.

“If you and Siri met in a dark alley, who's going to win that throw down?” asked reporter Michael King.

“Oh, there's going to be no throw down. We're going to walk out arm and arm,” said Jen Taylor. “We would be just trying to help each other.”

Issaquah's Jen Taylor can speak for Cortana, because she is Cortana.

If this is all a confusing circle, imagine being Jen! This former radio dj landed the role in 2001.

“Because I'm fabulous,” jokes Taylor. “I have no idea. Luck pure luck.”

She says it's fun to hear herself that way.

Active in local theater for years now, Jen says voicework is very much acting, just without the lights.

“I don't think I'm anything like Cortana frankly. I sound like her, that's how I'm like her.”
