This Eastern Washington hotel is giving guests the silent treatment – April Fools!

KING 5 Evening is getting in on the fun of April Fools Day by heading out to Babblebrook Inn in April Falls, Washington.

CHENEY, Wash. — The Babblebrook Inn in April Falls, Washington is making plenty of noise with a very quiet check in.

"Who doesn't love a mime?" said the hotel's owner, Alexa Wong.

Wong says a tough business climate made it the perfect time for a mime at their front desk.

"After the pandemic, we faced a lot of challenges. We had to figure out how we can get back on our feet," Wong said. "We needed an edge. And the mime gives us an edge. There's Hobbit houses on AirBNB, or the Harry Potter Hotel. And we have the mime."

The Babblebrook offers North America's first mime-forward lodging experience.

Wong said, "I think maybe in France you might find some mimes. But I think we're the only ones here."

Most guests are delighted by the change of face.

"The mime provides entertainment," said Wong. "The mime also provides exceptional customer service."

But nonverbal troubleshooting can be a real mime field.

"He's a mime, so you're going to get a lot of gestures," Wong said. "If you like charades this is the place for you."

Need help with your luggage? Prepare for a delightful wait as the front desk mime struggles with your suitcase and hilarity ensues.

Wong said, "Certainly there are pros and cons to having a mime," Wong said. "So we just ask our guests to be a little bit patient. If you need the mime to call a cab, that might take a little bit more time."

For a one-of-a-kind hotel check-in, what's yours is mime.

"The mime is great in terms of really stepping up that guest experience," Wong said.

And if you've read this far, APRIL FOOLS! Thanks for watching.  :-)
