Meet the Band – Star Anna

Her unique voice is the central focus of every performance. #k5evening

SEATTLE — Over the years, singer-songwriter and Ellensburg native Star Anna has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry. We caught up with her at a recording session for Band in Seattle, where she was about to play some of her latest music. Her late album, “Love and Sex and Fear of Death,” contains 10 songs about grief and how to get through it together.

JOSE: Is this album personal?

STAR ANNA: Yeah, we're trying to make it all worthwhile and make sense, at least as best we can

JOSE: We all progress with age. We all progress with life experiences. It kind of sounds like that's where you're going.

STAR ANNA: My view. My lens has broadened. I think it definitely shows in the songs, and hopefully, it resonates with a lot of people. Writing these songs helped me a lot.

JOSE: So, tell me, this new album, what's the vibe or are you going to get from you?

STAR ANNA: It's different—a lot different. There is a lot more sounds and a lot more textures.

JOSE: You are known as a singer who plays Americana music and alt-country, but this sound is different; it is touching rock. Are you experimenting with new stuff?

STAR ANNA: I think after doing this kind of music that I've done for so long, I kind of got bored with myself and wanted to try something else and expand

JOSE: Will you say that you still have the sound of the Northwest?

STAR ANNA: It'd be hard to get away from it.

To promote her new album, “Love & Sex & Fear of Death,” Start Anna built a Dream team for music.

STAR ANNA: I'm playing with a band, an amazing band that we've been playing some shows for my new album.

JOSE: We got a little sneak peek, and I'm telling you, you have some friends who know how to play.

STAR ANNA: Yeah, I agree. I know. I have spent years in music, making connections and being lucky enough to get to know some of the greatest and most fun musicians to play with in Seattle.

JOSE: Is there anything else that you want to say? that maybe people don't know about you?

STAR ANNA: Well, I should consider myself a dog person, and I've grown to become much more of a cat person than a dog person, which is kind of strange.

You can find her new album on her Bandcamp page; she is also part of the season Teen of Band in Seattle.
