ANAHEIM, Calif. — The latest film in Pixar’s impressive catalog comes out this week: “Inside Out 2.”
It’s a sequel to 2015’s Oscar-winning movie “Inside Out,” which showcased the emotions in a pre-teen girl’s mind.
The new film adds more sophisticated emotions like anxiety, embarrassment, envy and ennui to her internal workplace.
Pixar films are known for activating all senses by tapping into joy, laughter and grief.
Which Pixar movie do the stars of “Inside Out 2” rely on, when they need a good cry?
"I know a lot of people say 'UP' because of the opening of 'UP.' It's just so torrentially sad,” said Paul Walter Hauser, who plays Embarrassment. "(But) ‘Toy Story 3,’ when they're all huddling together, about to die? It was pretty gnarly, it didn't feel like a kids' movie anymore. It just felt like - I don't know – ‘Goodnight Saigon’ by Billy Joel. (singing) ‘We'll all go down together…’”
Amy Poehler (Joy,) Maya Hawke (Anxiety,) Tony Hale (Fear,) and Liza Lapira (Disgust) all agree their go-to Pixar film for weeping is the original “Inside Out” – thanks to one character.
"For me, it's still Bing Bong. Because that feeling, when I watched it for the first time - and Richard Kind's performance as Bing Bong?!" Poehler said. "That moment still - that was one of the most important cinematic deaths!”
Lapira agreed, saying, "When he said, 'Take her to the moon for me'… Two weeks, two weeks I was crying."
“Inside Out 2” opens in theaters June 14.
