NEW YORK — Can “The Rock” save Christmas? That’s the mission for Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, stars of the new holiday action film, “Red One.” Johnson stars as the North Pole's head of security. When Santa goes missing, he and co-stars Chris Evans and Lucy Liu go to work finding him.
Liu said she couldn’t wait to film the movie.
“Working with everybody was so fun,” she said. “Everything was decorated (for the holidays) and it was not even winter yet.”
The all-star cast includes JK Simmons as a surprisingly buff St. Nick.
“Top of the Nice List would be JK Simmons,” said Johnson, assessing his castmates.
Who’s at the top of the Naughty List?
Johnson laughs. “I am, yes, proudly.”
Kiernan Shipka plays Santa's evil abductor, the Icelandic witch, Gryla.
“This really felt like playing make-believe,” Shipka said.
“This is a unique movie, I think,” Liu said.
“Like ‘Die Hard,’ ‘Home Alone’,” Shipka suggested.
Liu added, “All the layers in-between is what makes it so special and so entertaining.”
Filled with magic, mayhem, and a twist of mischief, “Red One" is a Christmas movie that breaks the mold.
"Red One" comes to theaters November 15.
