NEW YORK — The holiday movie "Red One" teams Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and Lucy Liu in a race to free Santa from kidnappers just in time for Christmas.
But the stars' own Christmas memories are more heartwarming than pulse-pounding. Johnson remembers savoring downtime with his father, professional wrestler Rocky Johnson.
"A lot of times my dad was on the road," he said. "Sometimes, for the holidays (he) wasn't always there because he had to work. So, when we were together, that was awesome."
Liu grew up in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of New York, where dreams of a white Christmas took flight.
"I think when it snowed outside and we were out having snowball fights and building igloos, I remember making a rocket ship when I was younger," she said. "Making a seat with a whole steering wheel and everything."
Her co-star, Chris Evans, says every Christmas is special.
"A collection of really, really great, wonderful memories surrounded by family and loved ones," Evans said.
As the father of two daughters under the age of 10, Johnson looks forward to all the Christmases to come, starting with this one.
"Santa's coming, man," he said. "When Santa comes, it's a big deal in the house, like for every kid around the world, and that's just the best part."
"Red One" is now playing in theaters.
