LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — Jenny Keller has been helping us "eat cookies, be happy" since 2006.
“It's just been a fun little community of sweets, brought together with buttercream,” she said.
When she opened Jenny Cookies Bake Shop in Lake Stevens, she also created a cookie community that comes back every month to see what new theme these bakers have cooked up.
“So, it could be anything we've done, like Farmer's Market themed, where all of our cookies look like fruits and vegetables. We did a Dolly Parton theme one time. We've done so many fun things. We did 'Barbie' when 'Barbie' came out, we did Taylor Swift when the Eras tour was in Seattle. I mean, name a theme. I feel like we've done it over the years,” Keller said.
Right now they have "Gilmore Girls" themed cookies.
“It's been so popular, we can barely keep the cookies on the shelf,” Keller said.
And if you want to get any Jenny Cookie, you'd better hurry.
“The Bake Shop is being sold at the end of this year. So ,this is our last Christmas season. I know it's very, very bittersweet, but I'm ready,” she said.
"I'm so proud of her. She's written two cookbooks; she's been on countless TV shows. She's had a business here for so many years,” said Catherine Thornes, Jennys mother, who can occasionally be found rolling out cookies in the Bake Shop. “I couldn't be more proud of her and what she's accomplished. And she's going to do even more, I feel like this chapter’s ending but there's going to be another one starting that's even better.”
Keller will miss her customers as much as the cookies.
“Friends have become family, customers have become friends. It's all about the people, we've had the greatest, greatest customers,” she said.
And her customers think she's the greatest too — they're sending her out with something sweet: Jenny Cookies Bake Shop is the Best Bakery winner in the 2024 Best of Western Washington viewers poll.
“I think what I've learned the most having this bake shop is that it's our slogan ‘eat cookies, be happy,’" Keller said. "People love it, it’s such a sweet treat that you can give somebody and it means so much to them."
We'd all like to thank Jenny Keller and her cookie creations for making life a little sweeter.
