MALTBY, Wash. — Maltby Cafe customers have been cheering for the restaurant's classic cinnamon rolls, and owner Tana Baumler, for more than 30 years.
"It is what we're known for," Baumler said.
Indeed they are.
"You know there's some tough competition out there, but it feels good to know that people like ours," said lead baker Brenden Calvo.
Calvo hand-crafts these pound-and-a-half pieces of perfection using old-fashioned, slow-rising dough.
"Be sure to give everything time to really develop flavor," he said.
He spackles a huge, flat sheet of dough with cinnamon and butter.
"I could be a drywaller if I wanted to," joked Calvo.
Sprinkled with raisins, rolled like a carpet, and readied for the oven, western Washington's best cinnamon roll is a labor of love.
"It doesn't get old at all," Calvo said. "It's fun every time."
But the most fun is eating your choice for best cinnamon roll.
"Thank you for voting us Best Cinnamon Roll," said Baumler. "We love our customers."
