SEATTLE - For more than a century, the Sorrento Hotel has been a premiere place to stay.
So much so, one guest may never have left.
People claim to have seen the ghost of Alice B. Toklas roaming the property.
She was a famous member of the Parisian avant-garde art community, longtime partner of Gertrude Stein, and creator of an infamous herbal dessert recipe. She also lived in Seattle at the turn of the 20th century.
"She obviously is an art lover and she studied at the University of Washington's music school for a short time, so she also lived on the block," said Jacque Pratt of the Sorrento Hotel. "I think this was her old stomping grounds."
A sous chef at the Sorrento heard a piano playing inside the Penthouse Suite, even though there weren't any guests inside.
And on the fourth floor, guests have reported a presence outside room 408. Employees also had a strange encounter inside.
"They heard this breath come out, and they looked at each other and thought they were walking in on somebody," Pratt said. "But when they peeked in there, there was nobody in there."
An apparition has also been spotted on camera, by staff working overnight.
"They'll look up to see if a guest is at the front desk, and on that camera they'll see kind of a blur going by the front desk," Pratt said.
The legend of the Sorrento landed it on oyster.com's list of the 13 Most Haunted Hotels in the World.
