Drafted late in the game with a deadline fast approaching, J.J. Abrams calls making the Rise of Skywalker an insane challenge.
"It was like being in battle. You go to the front every day. Some days don't go so well some days go great but every day you show up," he said.
Daisy Ridley also showed up. She says the physical and emotional tolls of making this movie were so heavy she barely remembers her co-stars' final days on the set.
"I was so weary. I filmed so many days that I was so emotional and on edge emotionally I didn't want to say goodbye," she said. "But also I was so tired I really wanted to go to sleep but 'Oh My God' I won't see you next week. What's going on?"
Finding friends in unexpected places is one of the great themes of the Star Wars films and it happened on the set all the time.
"Taking the mask off and putting it aside and listening to J.J. Abrams giving me a little farewell speech, a good stiff upper lip was called for there and indeed was there," claimed Anthony Daniels, who devoted 43 years to playing C-3PO.
Joonas Suotamo made friends with the late Peter Mayhew before replacing him as Chewbacca. Suotamo has had an extraordinary life from professional basketball to selling insurance to now playing Chewbacca. "I will go back to insurance," he laughed.
Richard E. Grant was one of the actors who screened the Rise of Skywalker the night before being interviewed.
"There are emotional wallops during the movie that will undo you," he said. "And then Carrie Fisher appearing in a completely cohesive and seamless part of the narrative which I did not anticipate at all."
"Star Wars was always about hope and always about a group of people rising up against the enemy which exists in day to day life all the time," said Ridley.
You may want to bring tissues to the theater for this movie, "You will be [crying] unless you're made of stone. Yes I was wrecked by the end of it but in the most exhilarating way," claimed Grant.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on Friday, December 20.
