Classic sitcom stars Fran Drescher and Steven Weber team up for new NBC comedy

From 'The Nanny' and 'Wings' to 'Indebted'

LOS ANGELES — Back in the '90s, Fran Drescher was America's favorite 'Nanny,' and Steven Weber's career took flight on 'Wings.'

"I always wanted to work with Steven," Drescher says. "I never worked with him but I was always a fan."

She's finally getting her chance. The two classic sitcom stars are playing for laughs on the intergenerational comedy, 'Indebted.'

Weber says, "It's lighthearted, it's genuine and loving and funny. And there's this over here." He gestures to Drescher and she smiles warmly. Turns out, the admiration is mutual.

Drescher says, "To find someone that's good-looking, and good at physical comedy and funny, it's really the trifecta."

"Thank you very much," he responds a tad formally.

Drescher continues, "He's uncomfortable when I flatter him, actually, but he's learning to accept it."

Weber cracks, "Next question!"

Their new show, 'Indebted,' follows the travails of a broke couple moving in with their son and his wife. A hip young cast featuring Abby Elliott, Adam Pally, and Jessy Hodges joins the onscreen veterans.

Hodges says, "Fran and Steven are so fresh and young and cool."

Their generational differences show up on camera and off.

"There's a genuine love between all of us," says Weber. "Also there is a genuine kind of generation gap."

Pally agrees. "I will get an email from Fran that has, like, the whole email in the subject."

As Drescher and Weber head into their golden years, the stars hope viewers have as much fun watching 'Indebted' as they have making it.

"It can be a joyful ride," Drescher says, "And that's what we want it to be."

'Indebted' airs Thursdays at 9:30 on NBC.
