SEATTLE — Sorry, mom. We can all eat cookie dough now!
Thanks to Sugar + Spoon, we can try the forbidden fruit we've always desired.
"It's kind of like that food you love, but it's almost like you can't love it," says co-founder Ivana Orlovic.
She and her fellow University of Washington alum William Hubbell were in a UW entrepreneurship class together when inspiration called.
"And I was like, hey do you wanna be in my group? We got one extra spot. I think you're really cool. So I snagged him," Ivana says.
They couldn't get an A in the class without turning a profit in six months...with real money.
"When people ask what I sell, I say I sell cookie dough the way you've always wanted to eat it," says William.
During the recent maiden voyage for their new food truck, we counted 31 people waiting in line to get a taste of one of the four flavors they were offering that day...like "Dough-Reo," a riff on Oreo's with a chocolate dough base.
"Party Animal" debuted with the truck. It's Ivana's dream flavor, featuring pink dough with carnival cookies on top. They also had Holy Oats and Classic Chocolate Chip.
"We're not scared to try really weird things. Like the carnival cookie one? I've been obsessed with those my whole life. My mom's like, 'not too many carnival cookies' when I was little. So now I'm like, I'm putting it in my cookie dough."
William says the dough has no eggs, so it's safe to eat (you're welcome, mom).
