TACOMA, Wash. — Finally, a way to play golf even on a dark and rainy northwest day!
This is Evergreen Golf Club Tacoma and at 22,000 square feet it is the largest indoor golf facility in the nation.
A two million dollar investment say founders former Seahawk Jermaine Kearse and PGA Caddy Greg Bodine who see a need for all-season facilities.
"A lot of golfers will get their clubs out in May or June if they're lucky,” Bodine said. “They go play for a couple months, knock the rust off because they haven't played for seven, eight months, because of the weather. And by the time late summer comes around, you're starting to feel good about your game and then fall hits.”
Now inside what was once a roller skating rink, golfers have a way to extend the season. Kearse, a 4 or 5 handicap, knows what he wants to work on.
“My off-season project is for sure my driver,” Kearse said. “It's definitely the weak part of my game and so I looking forward to working on that.”
There are 13 track man bays for simulated golf. You can also work on your short game whether it's chipping or putting.
Playing here requires a membership that starts at $199 a month.
Its founders also hope the all-weather facility will help local junior players compete on a national level.
“I feel like it really develops perseverance, grit, self-belief in a lot of things,” Bodine said.
