GIG HARBOR, Wash. — It may seem calm on the outside but inside, there's always a flurry of activity. Tides Tavern is the busiest and most beloved restaurant in Gig Harbor, and for more reasons than you might ever guess.
We have come not to award Tides Tavern with Best Restaurant or Best Water View or even Best French Fires. Nope. This year Tides Tavern has won for Best Restaurant Restroom. Specifically, the ladies room.
"I'm not in there very often but it has the best view of any women's restroom that I've ever seen in my life," said owner Dylan Stanley. " It's pretty special. Kind of a hidden treasure that we have."
Not everyone on our staff could see what the fuss was all about. But we had somebody who could. We sent our photographer Diane inside to get the scoop and she was quite taken by the beautiful views and the fresh flowers.
"Lovely!" she said, "So nice! What a beautiful view!"
Babs Buchanan calls the room, with cushioned seating for two by the window, an oasis.
"You just go wow!" Buchanan said. "You don't want to leave."
It was once one of Gig Harbor's best kept secrets.
"Only the girls know about it and we're just super proud of it," said general manager Kristin Bergeson. Bergeson admits she sometimes looks at the space and thinks about how many more tables could fit in there. But not today.
This quiet little sanctuary with the million dollar view is no longer a secret but it is your winner for Best Restaurant Restroom.
