Evening Raves: Vancouver, 'Godzilla Minus One' and unconventional weddings

Evening hosts rave about their recent obsessions including local travel, movies and weddings. #k5evening

SEATTLE —

Kim

My rave is actually in south Washington State – the Vancouver, WA waterfront. My daughter had a basketball tournament there so we stayed the whole weekend. Lovely hotel, bars, restaurants and wineries. Great places to sit and walk right on the water – loved it!

At this time of the year my screen time greatly diminishes but I can suggest a long-anticipated movie that has finally made it to Netflix.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the first Godzilla movie and “Godzilla Minus One” may be the most conventional Godzilla movie since.

It's 1946. All of Japan is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and now Godzilla, who represented the destructive power of atomic bombs, is making a b-line for Tokyo. The movie won an Oscar for best visual effects and that's my rave.

My rave is for unconventional weddings. Back in the day you thought you had to have the bridesmaids, the ushers and the first dance – everything had to be a certain way. I went to a wedding recently with my wife and they had the most beautiful, unconventional wedding. It was in a small theater, the ushers were druids, the bridesmaids were fair maidens and the first dance was accompanied by dinosaurs and the “Jurassic Park” theme song.
