PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — Most silos you see are meant to hold grain. But these silos for sale in Port Orchard are intended to have people.
"My client read a magazine article all about grain silo houses and she was very inspired by the architecture. So, she hired a local architect, ordered the silo through Safeco Farm products and they got started on the build," said Kati Davis, a broker with Keller Williams
When it was finished in 2012, the silo house became one of the most unique homes in Kitsap County.
"It is just under 2,200 square feet. There are two silos," said Davis. "When you walk into the main silo you first enter in through the kitchen. It's a nice humble kitchen, open concept to a little eating dining area and then it opens right up into the great room. The great room has big soaring ceilings all the way to the top. There's a skylight at the very top, so a lot of light comes through. [It] has a nice cozy wood stove that heats the entire silo."
A short stroll up the silo's spiral staircase leads to two more bedrooms and a bonus space.
"Inside of the third bedroom, there is a ladder that goes up to a loft. My clients used it as a yoga loft," Davis said. "It has a great view you can look out over the entirety of the downstairs level of the silo."
Like music? The second silo is set up as a place for tunes, and a place to snooze.
"The adjoining silo was used as a music studio. My clients would have music sessions, friends would come over, they would jam," said Davis. "It also has a small kitchenette. It has its own bathroom. It has a nice garden bedroom that has a garage door, a glass garage door that opens up into the garden area down below."
The silo house sits on 22 acres and comes with additional buildings like a standalone garage, chicken coups and a couple of yurts.
"The yurts were built in 2020 with nice, beautiful covered deck spaces as kind of an additional area and space to retreat to during the midst of the pandemic. And they have been utilized a lot ever since."
It's style may not be for everyone, but whoever buys this silo house will get a place that's definitely out of the box
"Somebody who buys this place really wants to have a one-of-a-kind property," Davis said.
The silo house is on the market for $1,125,000.
