One day, Abbie Blumberg and Scott Hille's cat, Nakata, came home smelling like curry. So they did what anyone with a question does in the internet age: they crowd-sourced it.
Blumberg and Hille posted flyers with the the headline: "Why does my cat smell like curry?" And the world responded.
Photos of the flyer with the couple's anonymous email spread around the web, and soon hundreds of people were offering up their theories. The speculations ranged from dumpster diving to frolicking in curry-scented weeds. One correspondent surmised the smell could have been caused by a glandular disorder.
Eventually, the pleasant scent disappeared on its own. But Nakata's fame has only continued to grow. And the kitty curry mystery remains.
