Whiskey by John Howie tasting class! 🥃 | Local Lens Seattle

I won’t pretend to be a whiskey connoisseur… but I want to be! That’s why I was pumped when I got this week’s assignment: Check out ‘Whiskey by John Howie.’

BELLEVUE, Wash. — ‘Whiskey by John Howie' features global selections of rare and well-done whiskies with something for everyone.

They have one of the biggest and best selections on the Eastside and unique bar bites to compliment your favorite whiskey or cocktail. They are located adjacent to John Howie Steak inside The Shops at The Bravern, 11111 NE 8th St., suite 122, Bellevue.

I got to go to one of their monthly whiskey-tasting classes and learn about the spirit, taste test and even try some delicious food.

The 45-minute to one-hour class focused on a handcrafted collection of spirits including bourbon and rye. You can experience the whiskey while gaining knowledge about the companies they come from. You also get to make a cocktail and eat delicious small bites prepared by the chef team. Whiskey’s experienced bartenders and staff enjoy suggesting new favorites and rare bottles to try.

The fun interactive experience is guided by Tim Lodahl, GM/beverage director. Whether you are a seasoned spirit connoisseur or a curious beginner, the event is worth your time and doesn’t break the bank. I think it's an awesome date night option or an event with some friends.

I brought my friend Bennet who loves whiskey to enjoy this experience with me. We enjoyed the hand-selected whiskeys (four) and making the infamous Manhattan cocktail. I was also blown away by the food ‘Whiskey by John Howie’ has on the menu.

We tried several options after the class and here were some of my favorites:

  • Wedge salad
  • Nashville hot chicken bites – beware these are spicy. But delicious!
  • Mini twice-baked potato bites – SAY less. 10/10
  • Wagyu nachos – SO flavorful and probably my favorite appetizer on the menu I tried.
  • And last but not least – the massive short-rib French bip.

Ticket prices: $40 to $50.
