SEATTLE — KING 5 will say goodbye to New Day Northwest host Amity Addrisi on Thursday, Sept. 19. Addrisi has been the host of the morning talk show for the past four years and has been at KING 5 for almost 10. Before New Day she worked as the weekend morning anchor and the chief medical reporter for HealthLink.
“Leaving this, leaving you has been one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make in my entire life. I worked so hard to get to this exact spot in my career but as we keep working towards our goals, sometimes a different dream will emerge,” Addrisi said.
She announced the news on air Monday surrounded by New Day producers Joseph Suttner, Rebecca Perry and Suzie Wiley.
"This is hard, but we're excited for you," Wiley said.
Addrisi spent her early career covering wildfires in Bakersfield and politics and government in Sacramento. In 2015, she found her forever home in Seattle when she moved here to join KING 5. During her time here, Addrisi has raised her two children to have the same love for exploring the Pacific Northwest that she has.
Addrisi is leaving broadcast television in pursuit of a new career at the Seattle nonprofit the Allen Institute. She is taking a job that marries her love of storytelling and her passion for science.
“I’ve always loved science, and I love covering science on our show. I found a job at the Allen Institute and what they do is called open science - they basically do all this research that they share with everyone across the globe that other researchers and scientists can use their basic science to create new things," Addrisi said. "It’s an incredible organization and an incredible mission that they have, and it just really fits for me. I’ll be doing a little PR and sharing more of their stories and hopefully I’ll share them with you.”
Addrisi’s final episode of New Day Northwest will air at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 on KING 5.
“While making this decision was hard, I am excited for what comes next for myself and my family. But in the meantime, I’m going to miss all of you and Team New Day," Addrisi said.
