SEATTLE — Since the pandemic Nancy Nguyễn has been practicing her passion in cooking, including baking treats for her picky eater dog, Beau. In 2022 her hobby became a business called Beau's Lil Barkery.
Just this year, in response to market demands Beau's Lil Barkery expanded the business by baking cat treats.
"I've kept it really simple," Nguyễn said. "I've had incredible feedback with that. And I think that's due to just being very simple ingredients."
Beau has a significant job in the business. He is the official Taste Tester for Beau's Lil Barkery.
"I ran through with my vet, just making sure all the ingredients I picked were dog safe. And from there that's when Beau comes in to taste test ... and he ate cat treats too," Nguyễn said.
Beau's number one favorite is apple cheddar. But there are also Peanut Butter Lover, Blueberry Jam, Salmon and Sweet Potato, and many more including cat treats and decorated biscuits.
One thing that Nguyễn is grateful for as a small business owner is the support from AAPI and BIPOC market community.
"The greatest thing is making the connections and feeling that there's just less barriers out there than I realized," Nguyễn said.
