SEATTLE — When guests come to stay at your house, it's important that they're comfortable, and there's a way to do that easily even if you don't have a dedicated guest room.
"When you have a space that can be multifunctional it makes it so when you're family comes over for two weeks a year, you're not caught trying to pump up a bed they aren't going to like," said Blake Garfield, owner of Bedrooms & More.
You could go with a Murphy Bed, but if you move often you'd have to leave it behind. "If you're in a position in your life where you're going to be moving or downsizing you have to come up with something different."
One option to consider is a sleeper sofa. A modern sleeper sofa can fit any of your guests comfortably. "This sofa is full length, it's 80 inches just like a queen mattress someone would be sleeping on at home."
Different types of sleeper sofas can come as cots and king size beds. Garfield explains the mattresses are on solid decking, instead of springs or bars.
Garfield believes the most important thing about the sofa bed is even when your guests aren't in town it's still a good piece of furniture. "It's a legitimately comfortable sofa that happens to be a guest bed."
Bedrooms & More also offers a TV cabinet that can double as a guest bed. The cabinet folds out to reveal a mattress inside, with storage underneath for sheets and blankets. "It's super easy to open and close, anyone can do it."
The bunk-bed sleeper sofa is particularly innovative. Garfield suggested it as a great option for grandparents, who may need a dedicated space for grandkids, but only a few times a year. "It's super versatile, it's comfortable to sit on, you can do them in fabric and leather and all sorts of things."
You can easily transition from a sofa to bunk beds. It comes complete with a guard rail, ladder, and lock so kids can't take it down. The top bunk supports up to 300 pounds.
Garfield says sofa beds are often high-quality products and can last a lifetime. He advises customers to be more careful with a cabinet bed in case they're made with low-quality materials like particle board. He invites everyone to come to Bedrooms & More's class on how to shop for a mattress. "We can help you make sure you make the right purchase on a mattress."
