SEATTLE — In anticipation of Sabrina Carpenter's stop in Seattle for her "Short n' Sweet Tour" at Climate Pledge Arena, her hairstylist Scott King visited the New Day studio to talk all about hair and how he first met the pop icon.

"I was working in Washington, D.C. at a salon for about six years and I just kind of got bored, flew to L.A. on a whim and have been there for 13 years now," King said. "About 10 years ago, I worked a random photoshoot for this girl, Sabrina Carpenter. I had never heard of her, but I knew she was on Disney show and I've been with her ever since."

Carpenter is known for her signature vintage, pin-up look, specifically her blonde ringlets.

"Because we do so much heat styling and she does get highlights and treatments - it's all about haircare," King said. "There's Redken's ABC, Acidic Bonding Concentrate system, that includes a shampoo, a conditioner and a leave-in treatment which is key."

It's all about heat protection that doesn't strip hair color but makes the hair softer and smoother. The Redken 5-minute mask has also been an incredibly important product on tour.

"The leave-in we do every time we wash her hair and maybe once or twice a week, we use the 5-minute mask," King said.

In addition to the products themselves, the tool King uses are essential to getting that perfect curl.

"As seen in those Redken ads and just day-to-day we usually go for a looser, voluminous, blowout look and I like to use a 1 1/4-inch barrel [curling iron]," King said. "For something like stage, we do a much tighter, vintage-inspired look so I go for like a 1-inch iron. It's much tighter and more ringlet-y."

The tighter curls stay longer and give Carpenter a more dramatic look on stage.

Among all the Redken products that King uses, he stressed heat protection and Quick Blowout Spray.

"We also use a volumizing mousse, she loves her volume. Then we just blow her hair out and set it, for hours it sets in curlers. Maybe like 2 to 3 hours, then we take it down and then section by section brush it out," King said.

One of King's biggest tricks for taming flyaways involves two simple products — a boar bristle brush and Redken's Brushable Hairspray.

"I just take some of the hairspray and literally just spray it on the brush," King said. "Then I just brush it through, and it makes the hair so smooth. Then we use the Control Hairspray since it's a tighter hold and has frizz and humidity protection since sweat is inevitable on stage."

King also has three fall hair trends that he has been styling and seeing everywhere.

Trend 1 - Face-framing Fringe

"I just love a face-framing trend because it just really opens up the face," King said. "What I really like to do to make sure it stays up; you can use a barrel iron or just blow it out and then I just use a bit of hairspray or texturizing spay. You can just hold it out, do a light mist and that'll just give it a hold and open up the face."

Trend 2 - Blonde and Bold

"Blonde is never going to go out of style whether it's a honey shade, more platinum or anything in between," King said. "With blonde comes damage unfortunately so that's why you need a system that helps repairs bonds like the ABC system by Redken. If your hair is curly, we have one specific for curls that has even more hydration because with curls you need much moisture and hydration, so they look healthy and bouncy."

Trend 3 - Rom-Com Hair

"Rom-com hair is totally about the romantic, bouncy blowout. We do that with Sabrina, we do that with Jenny McCarthy," King said. "It just looks so healthy and shiny and effortless but also glamorous."

Sabrina Carpenter will be performing at Climate Pledge Arena on November 6th at 7 p.m.

"It's super fun, it's exhausting because we are literally in a different city every day or every other day and immediately after the show we are on the way to the next city," said King. "It's so fun seeing my work on stage and seeing the fans come and try to recreate the style I mean, I love it."
