How to pair wines with your Thanksgiving Meal

Chef Bonnie McPike of Bonnie Rae Fine Foods + Catering talks about how to pair the perfect wines with your Thanksgiving meal. #newdaynw

SEATTLE — While food takes center stage at your Thanksgiving meal, nothing elevates your fest more than a carefully curated wine pairing.

While red wine is most often associated with fall gatherings, Chef Bonnie McPike of Bonnie Rae Fine Foods + Catering suggests kicking off your meal with a French champagne, which she says pairs nicely with mashed potatoes or a similar dish.

For a vegetable dish like green bean casserole or brussels sprouts, McPike recommends a light and zesty Sauvignon Blanc, as it also adds balance and acidity to a rich holiday meal.

For the turkey course, McPike's go-to pairing is a Cru Beaujolais or Beaujolais Nouveau.

And to pair with your pumpkin pie, she recoommends a dessert wine like a Tawny Port.

If you'd like to prefer to spend more time with your Thanksgiving guests and less time in the kitchen, Bonnie Rae Fine Foods just launched this year's holiday meals, complete with a 48 hour brined turkey, rustic stuffing with toasted walnuts and cranberries, whipped mashed potatoes with chives, cranberry-orange sauce, a radicchio and citrus salad, and their perfect black pepper turkey gravy. They are also partnering with local bakery, Pie Bird Bakeshop to provide seasonal pies.

This year, a portion of the proceeds from these holiday meals will be donated to the nonprofit, Westside Baby, who aims to deliver diapers, clothing and other necessities across the Seattle area.
