Seattle Opera brings Gershwins' Porgy and Bess back to the Pacific Northwest

More than eighty years since its Broadway debut, the show continues to be one of the most important twentieth century operas about life, death, hope, and love in an African American community.

The iconic opera Porgy and Bess has a new home for the month of August at Seattle Opera.

Comprised of local talent and a knockout creative and production team, the story of Porgy and Bess comes to life on stage once again thanks to the Seattle Opera. In addition to a high quality musical production, Seattle Opera is also hosting public forums, events, and lobby displays to emphasize and celebrate the Black American experience and community.

Jermaine Smith, who joins the talented cast as Sportin' Life, performs It Ain't Necessarily So.

Porgy and Bess runs from August 11-25 at McCaw Hall. Tickets are on sale now.
