Bellevue Councilman Conrad Lee says it's time to think out of the box when it comes to light rail.
Lee says significant differences remain between Bellevue and Sound Transit over the route of light rail through downtown Bellevue. With no resolution over costs, Lee proposes a different route through downtown, dumping the idea of building a tunnel by moving the line east closer to 405.
Lee says a moving sidewalk could connect light rail to the Bellevue Transit Center. He says moving the route would save the expense of an expensive tunnel through downtown money that could be used to help mitigate the effects of light rail going down Bellevue Way and 112th.
Sound Transit wants a binding agreement by the end of the month; some council members now say that s not realistic.
