KING 5 says goodbye and congratulations to longtime anchor Dennis Bounds, who retires after bringing the news to viewers in Western Washington for 25 years.
Bounds joined KING 5 News in 1991 and has served as an anchor since 1994.
Before then, he worked as a news man in Fargo, ND, Orlando, Minneapolis and Shreveport, LA.
At KING, he co-anchored the morning news with Joyce Taylor, the early evening news with Jean Enersen, and the late night news with Lori Matsukawa, bringing viewers the biggest stories of the day.
Over the years, Bounds reported on politics, the Olympics, the conflict and peace in Bosnia, the Oso landslide, a couple of Super Bowls and was the only local television report to interview the Dalai Lama during his visit to Seattle in 2008.
Bounds has made numerous appearance to support schools and charities, such as Northwest Harvest, and has served on the board of The Special Olympics Washington.
“Good thing about retiring is that it is not a eulogy. We’re looking forward to a little more traveling, hiking, watching the M’s at Safeco Field and watching the news at five from the comfort of my living room couch,” said Bounds.
“So if you see me in the grocery line, don’t hesitate to come up as ask, ‘Didn’t you used to be the news guy?’”
