FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A goat for Christmas? It's not a gift people commonly give each other in the U.S., but it could be a life-changing present for a family in need in many other places around the globe.
If you're looking to give outside the box this holiday season, World Vision, a Federal Way based non-profit, is hoping you'll consider picking something out of their World Vision Holiday Gift Catalog on behalf of a friend or a loved one that could have a major impact on a family in another country.
World Vision, an international humanitarian, aid and advocacy organization, has been operating around the world for over 70 years with the primary goal to help people work their way out of poverty. The holiday catalog is one of the more unique ways they make it happen.
Kait Groshong with World Vision says the catalog features nearly 100 life-saving gifts.
“Lots of families like to use the gift catalog as a tool to teach their children about generosity,” Groshong said.

“A goat specifically can provide milk for children and offer the nutrients they need. The milk can also be sold and provide income,” Groshong said.
Groshong says the program helps people from Kenya to India. The organization spends time on the ground in these communities to better understand what their specific needs are.
“So if you give a goat it could go to a family in Armenia that requested a goat that really needs it for their income and for their family's needs,” Groshong said.
