Made in Washington marks 40-year milestone with special basket, Father's Day gift ideas

The local brand-focused store opened in 1984 in Pike Place Market.

A company focused on celebrating everything that makes Washington state special is turning 40 years old.

Made in Washington opened in 1984 as a "little store" at Pike Place Market.

To mark the milestone - Made in Washington (MIW) has created a special 40-year anniversary gift set.

"It features 40 of our most iconic and best-selling products from the last 40 years," said Kristin Frossmo, president of MIW.

MIW started with 50 local "makers" and has grown to more than 200 Washington makers, crafts people, small businesses, and artisans.

According to MIW's history - founders Gillian and Jack Mathews were traveling to a neighboring state and dropped into a store that was all about celebrating that state – and wondered why Washington didn’t have something similar. They talked about it all the way back to Seattle. In 1984, they made their dream a reality by opening their first Made In Washington story in Pike Place Market’s Post Alley.
