SEATTLE — Among the services considered essential during the COVID-19 shutdown is heating and air conditioning repair. A good thing, too, as many people are finding that sheltering inside their homes isn’t as comfy as they’d like.
Curtis Dahl at Sundance Energy Services said that after adjusting to working under social distancing guidelines and the uncertainty surrounding the stay-at-home order, business is once again picking up.
“Once we went into the lockdown it was very, very difficult to do anything, almost,” he said. “We weren't really sure of all the rules and what it meant to us [...] The great thing is right now, it's really a good time to (make) your home the most comfortable, safest and healthiest place on Earth.”
Dahl said that rebates from utility companies can be as much as $2,400 in some cases – and coupled with other discounts, upgrading your home’s heating, air conditioning or hot water heater has rarely been more affordable.
Air purification systems that reduce pathogens are another popular choice for homeowners. Allergy sufferers can reap the benefit of air filtration devices. There are many ways to improve your living space – as long as you’re willing to help out a little to get things started.
“We are essentially learning how to do business differently these days,” Dahl said. “We now do virtual sales presentations with our customers. They get the tape measure, they walk around the house, they measure things for us. We also have figured out how to be really effective at doing no-contact installs, maintenance, and repairs.”
Thanks to the dusty, dirty nature of the HVAC business, Dahl explained that Sundance was well-positioned to meet guidelines for slowing the spread of COVID-19.
“It wasn't actually that much of a challenge for us,” Dahl said. “We were lucky enough that we had a reasonably good supply of gloves and dust masks because we used those already -- unfortunately, part of our job is we go in crawl spaces and attics.
“Without those things, we wouldn't be able to do that very effectively. So we were well set up for it. It was just getting into the habit and constantly telling people, you know, to keep your distance.”
If you think you’re in need of a furnace or AC tune-up, Sundance is offering a free diagnosis if you indeed have to have repair work done. They are open 7 days a week.
