Longtime West Seattle jeweler closing after 20 years

The owner of Lauren's Jewelry said crime is a big reason why they are closing shop and saying farewell to the community.

SEATTLE — A well-known jewelry store in West Seattle will soon be a memory after it closes its doors for the final time.

The owner of Lauren's Jewelry said crime is a big reason why they are closing shop and saying farewell to the community.

"A whirlwind of emotions,” said Lauren Wiggins. “It's been an amazing journey but also a tough journey."

Wiggins is the owner of Lauren’s Jewelry that's been a gem in West Seattle’s Westwood neighborhood for 20 years.

"There's nothing like being a part of people's cherished memories,” said Wiggins. “Engagements, gifts, memories that they pass down to their kids and their kids' kids."

That's been her life as the owner of this jeweler.

"It was a really hard decision,” said Wiggins. “We have poured so much blood, sweat and tears into building this business."

She's dealt with several issues, including several burglaries and bouts of vandalism. Wiggins estimates losses of around $20,000 over the years.

"It's hard to keep going,” said Wiggins. “It's hard to run business when you feel violated."

This past weekend somebody stole a box truck she was using to advertise the store's liquidation sale. It was recovered, but the theft further solidified what she already knew.

"The last thing that made me realize I'm making the right decision," said Wiggins.

She feels crime is on the rise. Seattle Police Department's Crime Dashboard shows burglaries and thefts in that area of West Seattle have been up and down since 2021. But this year is on pace to surpass burglaries and thefts reported in 2023.

Despite this trend, Wiggins said one of the other main reasons she's closing is to also spend more time with her family.

"I want to thank everyone for supporting us,” said Wiggins. “For being here for us, when times are good and when times are tough are community has been here."

There’s no official closing date. Wiggins said it’ll close once every product is sold.
