This Seattle-area ZIP code is most expensive in US outside of California, report says

The area is home to some of the world's wealthiest people, and typical home values are well over $4 million.

SEATTLE — The wealthiest ZIP code in the United States outside of the state of California is just across the water from Seattle, according to a new report.

The Medina area, ZIP code 98039, is the seventh-most expensive housing market in the country, behind six California markets, according to The Business Journals' Wealthy 1000 broken down by median home values. Eight of the 10 most expensive ZIP codes are in the Golden State, with Medina and New York's Water Mill area representing the other two.

The Business Journals found that the "typical home value" in Medina is $4,463,121. Medina is famously home to some of the world's richest people, including Bill Gates and several other billionaires and famous residents, such as Jeff Bezos, before he moved to Florida.

The most expensive ZIP code according to The Business Journals is 94027, which covers the Atherton area in the San Francisco Bay Area. The typical home value there was far above the rest of the top 10, coming in at $7,711,460.

KING 5 previously reported on the overall Wealthy 1000 in June and found 35 ZIP codes in the Seattle area checked in among the 1,000 most-expensive areas in the country. The Seattle metro area has 43 ZIP codes among the 1,000 most expensive areas for median home value, the seventh-most of any U.S. metro area.

The state of California accounts for more than half of the ZIP codes on the list, including 203 in the Los Angeles area and 115 in the San Francisco area.

The typical home value data utilized by The Business Journals came from Zillow, according to the report.
