3-alarm fire burns Clark Feed and Seed store in Bellingham

Fire broke out at Clark Feed and Seed store Wednesday night, five months after an intentionally-set fire destroyed another feed store next door.

Firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at Clark Feed and Seed store in Bellingham on Wednesday night.

Crews responded to the fire at Clark’s, which is in the 1300 block of Railroad Avenue, at about 7:30 p.m., according to Bellingham Fire.

The last fire crews left the property around 8 am, Thursday, and investigators took over the scene. It'll take several days to identify a possible cause, according to Bellingham Fire Capt. Dave Pethick.

The building in which the fire broke out shares a wall with Hohl Feed and Seed, which was destroyed in an intentionally-set fire in February. Clark’s was also damaged in the February fire.

Wednesday's fire spread to Avalon Records, which has been in business since 1987. Chris Lamb, who owns the store, says it appears to be a total loss. The ceiling collapsed, destroying several boxes of rare albums, he said.

"The last twenty years of my life has been spent in that store," Lamb said.
