Fine homes often brag of their "old world charm." The latest century home on Capitol Hill is FROM the old world.
The Eckstein Mansion just turned 100 and now it's for sale...yes, THAT Eckstein, after whom Seattle's Eckstein Middle School was named. The home was Seattle businessman Nathan Eckstein's dream.
It is one of the early mansions on "Millionaire's Row," once Seattle's most exclusive neighborhood.
"There's a lotta soul in this house," says owner Jacquelyn Jaech.
She and her husband Jeremy have lived in the home for 15 years. Whenever renovations were needed, they were careful to maintain the original tone of the home.
"When we did all the glass repairs, we got a container of glass from France, from old buildings and whatnot that they tore down. So it would have just the right amount of drip in it? Because if you put brand, new glass, it's too clear," Jacquelyn says.
She loves the starburst theme that surfaces throughout the home. Jeremy's favorite feature is the colorful, ceramic fireplace in the expansive library.
"It's so unique. There's only four of them in Seattle created by Louis Comfort Tiffany himself," Jeremy says, referring to the artist of Tiffany Lamp fame.
It is a classic example of a Georgian Revival.
"Every time I would come back to the house, I'd look up and be like, I can't believe I live here. It's such an amazing piece of architecture," says Jacquelyn.
And three is indeed the magic number here. It sits on three city lots, a huge yard for its location. It also features a massive chef's kitchen, made for large gatherings with its three ovens and three dishwashers. And the finished basement features an English bar, a wine cellar and hotel-like private party restrooms. Yes, there are three in the ladies room.
The 7-bedroom beauty is offered at $7.5 Million. The owners are moving to spend more time in Eastern Washington at their new venture, Harmony Meadows.
