Confusion over circumstances of fatal shooting in Lakewood

An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Lakewood. The victim's girlfriend says he had already been shot when police arrived.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Lakewood.

The incident occurred in the 4800 block of Yew Lane SW.

Lakewood Police say the received a report at about 1 a.m. that a man had been shot or shot himself and was lying in middle of the road.

When they arrived, shots were fired and officers returned fire.

The 32-year-old man was deceased when medics arrived.

The man s girlfriend identified him as Trenton Thorp. She said she had been with him at a party and he had gone out for a walk. People at the party heard shots fired and saw him on the ground. She said she doesn t know what happened and that he had already been shot when police arrived. She doesn t believe police shot him.

She said Thorp is from Everson and went to Mount Baker High School and was a convoy security driver for the Army. He had just returned from a tour in Iraq.

Four Lakewood officers are on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
