$11,000 reward offered for information on killing of Edmonds 7-Eleven clerk

Friends say the 64-year-old victim worked two jobs to send his kids to college.

EDMONDS, Wash. — 64-year-old Nagendirum Kandasamy spent the last hours of his life doing what he always did: working to help his family get ahead.

Following an eight-hour shift at a Shoreline gas station, Kandasamy was back for an overnight shift at the Edmonds 7-Eleven on Friday when he was gunned down.

Kandasamy worked at the station for about 20 years.

"This is the number one priority of this police department," said Edmonds Police Sgt. Josh McClure. "Our officers knew this person either from going to calls there or going in to get a Slurpee. So these citizens who say they had a relationship with the victim, that this hits really close to home to them, we understand it."

Kandasamy was working 60 to 70 hours a week to put his two kids through college. Around 5 a.m. on Friday, a white man in his 20s burst through the door of the 7-Eleven, jumped up on the counter and opened fire.

The store is located at Highway 99 and 238th Street SW.

Investigators continue to search for a "very significant vehicle of interest" in the case. Its make and model remain unknown, but a light-colored sedan was caught on surveillance video in the area. Police are currently examining video from everything from doorbell cameras to bus stops for clues.

So far, more than 100 tips have come in, but none of the leads have led to a suspect.

"We're hoping someone in the public steps forward because we know somebody knows something," said McClure.

Police said whatever happened inside the store was over in less than 30 seconds and nothing appears to have been stolen.

"We don't know what the motive was here," said McClure. "The only person who knows is the person we're gonna go catch."

Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to charges against the person or people responsible for the death of Kandasamy.

The 7-Eleven corporation is offering an additional $10,000.
