ABERDEEN, Wash. — A 16-year-old is in police custody after firing a gun around his neighborhood and running from officers, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.
In a release, Aberdeen police said officers responded to reports of someone firing gunshots near East 1st Street around 1:30 a.m. Friday. Witnesses reported hearing two shots, which other officers who were out on an unrelated call nearby confirmed.
An Aberdeen officer eventually located the suspect, who ran from police. Officers recognized the teen suspect from previous encounters, the release says, and knew he lived nearby.
Police set up a perimeter around his residence and spoke with his parents. The teen walked out of the back of the house with a bottle of alcohol and the pistol he was using to shoot, per the release.
The 16-year-old was taken into custody on suspicion of unlawful possession and unlawful discharge of a firearm, minor in possession of alcohol, obstruction and resisting arrest.
