BELLEVUE, Wash — Bellevue police have arrested a man they say is connected to three separate vandalism incidents of a Pride art exhibit in the city's downtown.
The Bellevue Police Department (BPD) initially asked the public for help identifying the vandal on Oct. 2. They shared pictures and videos of a BMW with no license plate that would do burnouts on the artwork, including one instance in broad daylight where many other cars were near the intersection.
The first incident happened on July 14, and the other two were in September. Police estimated the collective damage of the three vandalism incidents to be over $13,000.
BPD says it arrested a 21-year-old at his Renton residence on the afternoon of November 12. He is accused of three counts of malicious mischief and three counts of reckless driving. KING 5 does not typically name suspects until they have been charged.
“Officers often preach ‘see something, say something.’ It’s without a doubt Bellevue residents helped law enforcement hold this individual accountable,” said Wendell Shirley, Bellevue's police chief, in a release. “This arrest is a testament to the teamwork a community and law enforcement can achieve together.”
