MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — The King County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death in Maple Valley.
King County deputies said they received a 911 call around 1 p.m. about a body found at SE 252nd Street and 238th Avene SE.
Deputies said someone walking down the street saw trash on the side of the road and after looking closer, found a body. King County Major Crime Unit detectives were on the scene gathering evidence for hours Thursday.
“There is quite a bit of garbage covering the one body we could see. They’re taking a methodical approach to check for evidence in and around before they actually remove the trash to determine closer what we have,” said Sgt. Eric White with the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Details of the person found dead are limited, leading deputies to investigate this as a suspicious death.
“We have somebody laying out in the bushes that's deceased. That’s suspicious,” Sgt. White said.
Deputies asked those who lived nearby if they saw anything.
“They asked for a security camera but it's a very safe neighborhood. I never thought I needed a camera,” said Hirromi Okno, who lives nearby.
Okno did not see a clue in the case, but her son did see the investigation unfold on his bus ride home from school.
“I saw a police officer on the top of the hill and there was a lot of caution tape. I was really worried," said Kai Alcon, "I saw the investigation like my mom said, I thought this was a very safe neighborhood.”
Okno typically lets her other son walk home from the nearby elementary school but now is reconsidering.
“Anything could happen. You have to be safe, you have to see what's going on around yourself, Okno said. "I think I learned some lessons today.”
King County deputies are asking anyone with information to come forward.
