SEATTLE — Seattle police are investigating a crash-and-grab burglary at a Capitol Hill pot shop overnight after a vehicle rammed into the store early Tuesday morning.
Police say the owner of The Reef Cannabis Dispensary on East Olive Way reported approximately $20,000 of damage and $20,000 of merchandise stolen in the incident. Police say multiple suspects entered the building after ramming into it with a stolen vehicle, then fled the scene in two separate vehicles.
SPD says upon further investigation, officers determined as many as seven suspects may have been involved.
The same location previously had a similar crash-and-grab burglary in October, and Tuesday's incident follows a familiar pattern of suspects using a vehicle to smash into the pot shop and use that to gain access.
State lawmakers dedicated discussion to laws that would strengthen penalties for pot shop break-ins during the most recent legislative session, but nothing ultimately was passed.
