FALL CITY, Wash. — On Monday, defense attorneys spent hours at the site of last week's quintuple homicide in Fall City.
After investigators processed the scene and gave evidence to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to file charges last week, the home was briefly turned back over to family members. However, on Monday, the defense petitioned a judge to allow them in the home as well, especially since the prosecution is asking for this case to be moved from juvenile to adult court.
The judge gave the defense one day inside the home. Per the judge's order, they could collect no physical evidence. The defense took pictures to create a 3D scan of the home to help with their client's case. They declined our request for an interview.
On Oct. 21, authorities found five members of the Humiston family shot and killed. Mark Humiston, his wife Sarah, and three of their children: 7-year-old Katheryn, 9-year-old Joshua and 13-year-old Benjamin.
The sole survivor, an 11-year-old girl, was shot in her bedroom but managed to escape and seek help. Her 15-year-old brother, who KING 5 isn't naming because he's a minor, is the suspected killer. He's been charged with five counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He remains in custody.
Over the last week, several community gatherings have been held to help process the collective grief. A memorial at the park along the Snoqualmie River has grown significantly over the past week.
"It's sad to see because you know what it's related to, but I think it's great people are doing it," Christina Mann, who lives in Fall City, said. "Those I'm close with, we have talked about it because it's devastating and such a shock."
