Man dies after being shot by Pierce County deputy

Details about what happened immediately before the shooting were not available.

WALLER, Wash. — A Pierce County Sheriff's deputy shot a suspect armed with a knife in Waller just after midnight on Wednesday. The man died from his injuries on Saturday.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) responded to a verbal domestic violence call between family members at a residence on the 4800 block of 33rd Avenue Ct. East around 11:06 p.m. Tuesday night. The caller told 911 that their brother was armed with a knife.

When deputies arrived, the suspect ran to a back shed on the property. Around 12:11 a.m., deputies advised dispatch that shots had been fired.

Deputies applied a chest seal bandage to the suspect and he was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Information about what happened in the lead-up to the shooting was not made available.

The Pierce County Force Investigation Team will handle the investigation. The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
