KENMORE, Wash. — A Kenmore mom is speaking out after she and others say the driver of a white Tesla followed her children home from school and allegedly tried to grab a young student.
The incident is being investigated by the King County Sheriff’s Office.
“If it’s that many kids who all have a consistent story about what happened, then you know that there is something going on,” said Kathryn Hagy.
King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime detectives are actively investigating reports of an attempted kidnapping of a student of Arrowhead Elementary in Kenmore. In a letter to parents, school officials shared reports the man had waited by the school gym and reportedly followed several students into a neighborhood.
School administrators said the district’s security team has been notified and a plan is in place for when school resumes in January, according to the letter.
“We managed to - between the two of us - kind of piece together the different stories then I contacted the school before they closed for break and then called the police right away,” Hagy said.
Hagy said her twins had been telling stories of a white Tesla they said was following them home for the past several days. Things became serious when they told her the driver of the vehicle tried to grab a young student.
“It was only this last Friday when all of that information came out and so then, of course, we realized the seriousness of the situation,” Hagy said.
The aftermath of the alleged encounter was caught on a homeowner’s security camera, which shows a white Tesla before children can be heard screaming.
“I wanted my kid to be able to walk home and be more independent and have some of the experiences that I had growing up," Hagy said. "And now feeling like I have to pick them up everywhere and that they don’t feel safe that’s not what I wanted for my kids."
